Questions mothers ask
These are the questions mothers ask me most, answered as honestly and simply as I can.
Coming back to you
Why do I feel like I've lost myself since becoming a mum?
Because motherhood changes every part of you, and most of us were never told. The woman you are hasn't disappeared. She's shimmering just below the surface, and there are gentle ways back to her.
Read my answerMatrescence
What is matrescence?
Just as adolescence describes a teenager's passage into adulthood, matrescence describes a woman's transition into motherhood and all the change that comes with it. It touches every area of your life, and it goes far beyond the first year.
Read my answerBoundaries
How do I say no without feeling guilty?
Give yourself space before you answer. My rule is at least 24 hours. Then check in with how you feel: if it's not a hell yes, it's a hell no. Saying no doesn't mean you love someone any less.
Read my answerValues
What are my values as a mum, and are they really mine?
Your values are the things most important to you, the beliefs that guide your decisions. Many of us have had our values instilled in us since childhood, and they change with each season of life, before children and after.
Read my answerOver-functioning
Why am I so exhausted and resentful when I do everything for everyone?
Often it's over-functioning: doing more than is necessary, more than is appropriate and more than is healthy. Many mothers seek their value and worth in the doing, and resentment is one of the signs your boundaries need attention.
